Datum Goes to New Heights to Give Hospital Custom Storage Solution

When the Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island moved to a new building, they didn’t have a tall order for their new patient records filing system; instead they had the opposite. The current mobile storage system couldn’t fit in the new area because of its low ceiling clearance. Datum, who worked in conjunction with SYSTEMATICS (http://www.systematics.biz), a Datum Authorized Reseller, created a customized filing solution flexible enough to stay within the strict height requirements while still maximizing storage space.

 

The low ceiling height of the room required a mobile system that could adapt. Datum installed a MobileTrak3® system equipped with ThinStak® shelving. Here’s how their new system breaks down:

 

The MobileTrak3® eliminates the need for aisles between shelving, reducing space by at least 50 percent. It also features a lower profile than most mobile systems that allows it to accommodate the hospital’s low ceiling. Most importantly, the MobileTrak3®offers the ability to expand and grow as the hospital’s storage needs do.

 

The ThinStak® is Datum's low profile shelving line. It’s able to add an extra row of shelving in tight spaces which can increase the amount of files stored by more than 50 percent in 27 percent less floor space! School Datebooks new MobileTrak stores more than 70,000 datebook samples

School Datebooks, Inc is a company that supplies schools from all across the nation with datebooks for their students. This volume of inventory requires a storage system able to handle the high density storage of over 70,000 datebooks. The company’s current system of lateral files and industrial shelving was both disorganized and cumbersome. To update their storage, School Datebooks turned to Datum who combined two of its products, the MobileTrak3® and the 4Post™ to create a functional and versatile storage solution.

A MobileTrak3® System was installed to house the customer sample files that School Datebooks archives in their warehouse. The new system consolidates and better organizes the large amount of samples by moving the system into the office area which allows for faster and more efficient file access. The new system frees up space for new machinery and eliminates the need to build a larger warehouse.

MobileTrak5 created a centralized storage system

The phrase, “the more the merrier,” may not have been the first reaction to the storage dilemma caused by several municipalities moving in together in Auglaize, Ohio. These municipalities were relocating to a newly constructed building where their individual file collections had to converge into a joint filing room. Combining multiple departments’ storage needs into a single system created an organizational dilemma. But Datum Filing Solutions had the answer. They combined several products to create a single, stream-lined storage system that addressed the individual needs of each department.

Datum utilized both stationary shelving and a MobileTrak5® System with 4Post™ Shelving to meet the unique storage needs. The MobileTrak5® creates a single, moveable isle between shelves which requires less floor space than traditional shelving. This saves space while allowing for future file growth. Because the municipalities wanted to keep their existing top-tab files, Datum added rollout drawers that converted the 4Post™ Shelving into drawers that could store top–tab files. Datum also added EZ Roller Shelves to accommodate the municipalities’ large ledger books. The EZ Roller Shelves maintain the integrity of the books by eliminating damage caused from regular shelf storage, preserving them for years to come.

Although consolidating the records of separate municipalities at first seemed like a problem for Auglaize County, the new system from Datum easily and efficiently combined multiple file collections into one. The municipalities saved both money and time by keeping their top-tab file system. Additionally, the new system allows the municipalities to better organize their new space and prepare for future growth. At the end of the day it was a win-win situation where all the departments’ needs were met and can now function together seamlessly in their new space!

Datum Creates Customized Locker Storage System for Dental School

The ThruStak System is built right into the wall of the chart room, maximizing space and providing easy access to both students and staff.

The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine joined efforts with Datum to update their record storage system that was anything but user-friendly. Students used to file their confidential patient records in small lockers that lacked security and organization. By customizing an existing product, Datum created a whole new system that is tailored to meet the dental school’s exact needs.

The ThruStak™, a modified version of the TekStak™ storage system provided the perfect solution:

MobileTrak5 maximizes floor space utilization and reduces construction costs

Along with upgrading to a new building, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) decided to also upgrade their storage system. The new PennDOT Materials Testing Facility incorporated various Datum products into their media storage, including the 4Post™, Stak-N-Lok™, MobileTrak5® and Mail Master™.

Datum combined a variety of storage solutions to create a customized answer to PennDOT’s media storage problems. The previous system consisting of lateral and vertical files, bulk shelving, and archival boxes stored in various places was preventing efficiency and any sense of organization. PennDOT now has the versatility to store items from various departments in centralized areas, eliminating retrieval time and keeping materials orderly. The agency also received a Mail Master™ mail sorting system to help organize the public mail area.

The 4Post™ and Stak-N-Lok™ shelving provides storage for various items including books, letter and legal files, archival boxes, rolled files and CDs. And by installing the MobileTrak5® system, PennDOT minimized construction costs by consolidating storage areas and saving floor space.

The El Dorado West Secondary School is the largest educational institution in the St. George East District of Trinidad and Tobago, an island state in the Caribbean. Recently, their government mandated that each student be assigned a laptop in an effort to enhance their learning experience.
